Thank you, community!
The Friends of Hominy Creek Greenway hosted its annual meeting on November 9, 2022 at the Cellarest Beer Project in West Asheville. The meeting was called to order by the organization’s president Nancy Benoit and attended by trustees and members of the community.
The meeting was open to the public. Benoit reviewed the organization’s accomplishments over the past year that included hosting regular work days; the replanting of the medicine wheel garden; tree plantings and invasive plant control; and resurfacing the trail from the Shelburne Road trailhead to Carrier Bend. Among the items discussed at the meeting were financial and membership reports; an update on future trail construction from the Sand Hill trailhead to Cornbread Junction that is funded, in part, by a $5,000 grant from Connect Buncombe.
The FOHCG is currently updating its mission statement and strategic initiatives, including exploring independent tax status, fundraising efforts, ecological restoration, board recruitment, among other aims. At the conclusion of the meeting, community members were encouraged to ask questions, provide feedback, volunteer at future workdays, and to support future projects through a membership donation.
